Square Enix has announced The Diofield Chronicle, its new tactical strategy RPG coming to PlayStation this year.
Introduced as part of Sony’s latest State of Play, The Diofield Chronicle is a new real-time tactical war game (RTTB). The game was developed by an experienced team, including character designer Tyke (Lord of Vermillion III, IV), Kamikokuryo Isamu (Final Fantasy XII, XIII), and sound composers Ramin Javadi and Brandon Campbell (Game of Thrones).
The game uses diorama-style visuals that have become more common in recent Square Enix initiatives (Octopath Traveler, Triangle Strategy).
Square Enix Marketing Manager Noriko Ozaki said of the game’s story: “The Sheitham Royal Family ruled the kingdom of Alletina and the island of Diofield for two hundred years.
“A group of elite mercenaries who call themselves the ‘Blue Fox’ emerge against a backdrop of fire and chaos whose legend has echoed through the centuries.”
The game’s battles are based on real-time assessment of battlefield conditions, with players issuing decisive commands that take advantage of troop strengths and weaknesses. Players must use skills, classes, and equipment to complete strategic missions.
Although a release date has yet to be determined, the game is expected to release this year. Chronicle of Diofield via Steam PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S will be released on Nintendo Switch and Windows PC.
