Persona 5 Royal is getting a PS5 version, but fans want to know if the PS4 version can be upgraded to next-gen.
Persona studio Atlus recently announced that a number of Persona games will be ported to modern consoles. Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Royal are expected to receive ports in the future.
Persona 5 was first released in 2016 and then got an expanded version called Persona 5 Royal which was released worldwide in 2020. While the original and expanded versions of Persona 5 were released on PlayStation 4, Royal is now preparing to launch a new generation. On PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
But what PlayStation fans want to know is if they can upgrade to the PS5 version for free if they have already purchased the PS4 version.
At the time of writing, it was announced that players will not be getting a free update to the PS5 version of Persona 5 Royal. Those who purchased Royal on PlayStation 4 will need to repurchase the game if they want to play the PlayStation 5 version.
The news comes via @Wario64 on Twitter, who posted an FAQ image from Japanese news site Persona. The question is, “If I purchased the PlayStation 4 version of Persona 5 The Royal, can I upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version?”

“Sorry, but there are no products available for PlayStation 4 purchasers of Persona 5 The Royal,” the response reads.
We would be grateful if you could purchase “Persona 5 The Royal” for PlayStation 5 while playing on PlayStation 5.
The full price of Persona 5 Royal on PS4 is currently $59.99. Although the price of the PS5 version has yet to be determined, gamers can probably expect it to be around a similar price.
