Intel Raptor Lake i9 processor could be the fastest single-core chip

Another Intel Raptor Lake processor has surfaced online and appears to be slightly faster than the AMD Threadripper 2970WX. The Core i9-13900K engineering sample in question could replace the Alder Lake Core i9-12900KF as the fastest single-core processor, but it also appears to have multi-threading potential.

I observe Tum_apisakrEstimates for the sample Intel Raptor Lake Core i9-13900K are now available via CPU-Z. The next-generation chip scored 846 in single-threaded tests and 13,054 in multi-threaded tests, making it theoretically 15% faster than the 12900KF and 10% faster than AMD Ryzen 9 5950X.

As mentioned above, the high-end Raptor Lake processor is faster than the AMD Threadripper 2970WX, but only 2% faster (according to Videocardz). However, it could help Intel in its quest to reclaim the crown of best gaming processors and raise the performance bar for gaming PCs even further.

An improved successor to Intel Alder Lake

Intel Raptor Lake processors are expected to arrive later this year and will be met on the battlefield by the new AMD Ryzen 7000 chips. Models like the Core i9 13900 are 20% faster than the 12900K.

The future of the blue team in the CPU market looks promising, but with the entry into the GPU market, the outlook is not easy. Intel Arc graphics cards like the A380 are still exclusively available in China and it looks like their lineup won’t hold up against upcoming RTX 4000 and AMD RDNA 3 rivals.
