Quantic Dream eschews the term cinematographic adventures: “we make video games”
The founder of the exclusive 3Djuegos company did not hesitate to highlight the benefits of the video game studio.
3DJuegos attended Quantic Dream’s 25th anniversary celebrations at their office in Paris. The development team opened up to the magazine to show us some of the magazine’s best-kept secrets and travel through its 25-year history. Do you consider yourself kings of the genre after becoming one of the references of movie adventures? CEO and founder David Cage not only distances himself from any monarchical characterization of the genre, but also from the term “cinematic adventure.”
“No, to be honest we consider ourselves the kings of nothing”“I think the secret lies in our passion for our 25 years of work. games. We tell stories through gameplay, not video scenes, and that’s something that has worked for 25 years.”
In short, what we do is video games.David CageHe stressed that Quantic Dream is “interested in knowing what is going on in the player’s mind as they play with their fingers. Both are connected, the game is an important part of immersion and storytelling, but there is also a famous phrase: ‘They will remember how they felt, but not what they did,’ he says. And it’s a very powerful statement: you remember the emotions you experienced at the controls rather than what you did to get there”. The artist concluded:we love to create games that make you experience the road. The experiences that make you think, act, and talk to the people around you make you see things differently than you did before you even started, perhaps.”

Quantic Dream is a unique moment. Shelving allegations of harassment in French courts in 2021, the team is having a great time working with the Star Wars franchise in Star Wars: Eclipse. The still undated video game will allow the French team to start different genres after years of working with games like Heavy Rain, Beyond or Detroit: Become Human. The team’s independence after twelve years of working with PlayStation was resolved with the release of several unannounced projects in preparation and the release of third-party video games, the adventure turned out to be more lucrative than it might seem at first glance.
