Five tips to start with Valorant

0

If you’ve been on the internet or gaming lately, you’ve probably heard of Valorant. The online first-person shooter has gained particular popularity due to its free-to-play model and competitive scene, making it one of the most popular games in recent years.

As exciting as it can be, it can be a bit daunting if you feel like you haven’t hit the mark. Getting into such a popular game after its initial phase can seem daunting, as many highly-skilled players will be using terms you haven’t even heard of. Also, sites that promise to help may be full of these phrases, leaving you with more questions than answers.

Fortunately, Riot Games’ free-to-play FPS isn’t as impenetrable as it seems, and once you’re there, there are hundreds of things to see and do, along with regular updates and competitive rankings. Additionally, beginners benefit from many Valorant PC-specific apps, each of which can help you improve your productivity. We’ve put together some basic tips to get you started. Soon you will be able to hold your own in this exciting hero shooter game, easily distinguishing your guardians from your initiators and your pickaxes from your flares.

Check out the Beginner’s Guide to Valorant, with some useful apps to help you climb the ranks quickly.

learn the basics

One of the hardest things about any new game is deciphering all the specific terms and phrases used by those who know it best. Valorant is no more difficult to learn than any other multiplayer FPS; in fact, once you learn the basics, you can feel like a pro surprisingly quickly.

You play as an agent in a team of four other players, each of whom will choose their own unique agent. Matches consist of multiple rounds: the first person to win 13 of these rounds wins the match. Each team of five will be assigned a role: attackers or defenders who switch sides after 12 rounds. Attackers must plant the Spike (power bomb) and defenders must disable it or prevent it from being planted.

Winning the round is achieved by successfully planting the spike, preventing it from firing, or destroying the other team. Players who die will have to wait until the next round to respawn. Any positive action taken during a round rewards individual players with credits, a form of in-game currency, which can be used to purchase upgraded weapons, abilities, and armor before each round. Remember that death means your loot will drop.

To silence

Valorant is visibility and can be manipulated in many ways. The main thing you want to avoid is the other team identifying you or your teammates as you move around the map. If you are not surrounded or chased, you should try to slow down by walking rather than running, as the latter makes a noise that can alert enemies to your location.

Valorant isn’t a run-and-gun game either: shooting at high speeds won’t get you anywhere. Reduce everything to a walk and prioritize walking, stealth and cover.

Flares are very useful for this purpose as they obscure the view of the enemy team. Each projectile is fired individually, blinding everyone who sees it for 2-4 seconds. Be careful though: this applies to those who have Flash enabled and their teammates.

Use the tracking app to improve your stats

If you watch Valorant players on Twitch and YouTube and can’t figure out how they got so good, you probably haven’t discovered the biggest gameplay boost available: tracking apps. These applications (perfectly legal and ban-proof) can be installed via Overwolf on your computer to monitor your competition and your own progress from zero to hero. Valorant Tracker, for example, is exceptionally useful software that displays stats, leaderboards, progress, history, and more.

Valorant is a high-stakes game and you need to make sure you have an advantage, especially if you are a beginner. With a tracking app like Valohunt installed, you can have in-game overlays that tell you everything you need to know and help you make those important decisions at a glance.

Make sure to check your stats after each game and see how you can improve next time.

Choose a hero that matches your style.

Agents are divided into four categories: Duelists, Guardians, Initiators, and Controllers. Duelists specialize in attacking and planting spikes, clearing areas on the map with flares. Some agents that fall into this category are Jett, Phoenix, Raze, Reyna, Yoru, and Neon.

Guardians are primarily defenders, protecting items from enemy invasion. They set up static obstacles that keep incoming enemies at bay and aim to completely cut off parts of the map. This category includes Agents Chamber, Cypher, Killjoy and Sage.

Initiators typically play an offensive role, moving into enemy territory and exposing their location to teammates, leaving them vulnerable to attack. This is both an aggressive and strategic role. Agents Breach, K/O, Sky, Owl, and Fade are suitable for this role.

Controllers “slice” the map, keeping the enemy in check and providing cover for your team. They are responsible for the visibility of their team on the other side. To play this role, focus on agents like Astra, Brimstone, Omen, or Viper.

Using the aforementioned Valorant Tracker or the Valorant Lineups app can be a great way to learn how to play to your strengths. With the ever-increasing number of characters and weapons, you can keep up with what’s happening in the apps and make all decisions in a split second. You can evaluate which agents suit your personal style or browse the database to find something new for more advanced tasks.

share your victories

Once you’ve wrested an impressive victory from the jaws of defeat, installing Nuked.TV means you can watch it anytime or share it with the community. This nifty app automatically identifies important moments and saves them for you, letting you relive every victory (and defeat if you’re looking for ways to improve!)

For something more high-tech, you can download Medal, a free video editing software designed for gamers. Those seamless Twitch transitions and YouTube intros can be easily done with this app, so you’ll quickly build a loyal following.
