Age of Empires 4 Season 2 update lets you rotate the camera

A new Age of Empires 4 patch has been released announcing the arrival of Season 2 dedicated to Age of Sail. However, update 17718 doesn’t just unlock new seasonal activities: it’s a new map, new map selection options in multiplayer, and a new camera that will bring a bigger, broader view of medieval battlefields in a world. Strategy game in real time.

“We’ve added a new level of camera zoom and rotation to provide a broader view of the battlefield and a more consistent view of the base,” the Age of Empires team said in a recent blog post. “In making these changes, we experimented with many different settings to set the optional position. Zooming out even further caused readability and unit selection issues, but offered few benefits. We found that these new values improve game feel, battlefield clarity, and base management.”

You’ll find the new camera settings in a drop-down menu in the Settings menu that lets you choose between “classic” and new “panorama” modes. However, you will need to return to the main menu for this option to take effect if you switch modes in a match.

Update 17718 also adds a fully remappable hotkey layout for gamers who really want to switch up their control scheme. In the Controls section of Settings, you can click the View button and reassign controls to open the Reassign panel, which allows you to select any button for any task.

When configuring a new button layout, be aware that this hotfix also changes how hotkey assignment conflicts are handled. In previous versions, assigning a hotkey that was already assigned to another function disassociated it from any other assignment: Age of Empires 4 now allows conflicts to be logged, but notifies you when they occur. However, you can disable this alert with another new option called the “prevent conflicts” toggle.

We already told you about the changes to skirmish card selection and ranking, but Age of Empires 4 now introduces a new card type called Pit. As you might have guessed, this map features mountains surrounding a low, forest-covered valley, where you can find one of the map’s holy places in the center.

Season 2 includes a set of new symbols, frames, sigils, and portraits that can be unlocked by completing a series of challenges. It starts today, so put those villagers to work.
