Assassin’s Creed Liberation is no longer on Steam and will soon be unplayable

The only Assassin’s Creed game starring a black woman has been removed from Steam. Ubisoft has removed the Steam edition of Assassin’s Creed Liberation, so this adventure game is no longer available to purchase, and worse, even if you already own it, it looks like you won’t be able to play it from September.

Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD, a remastered version of the PSP game tied to the events of Assassin’s Creed III, was released in 2014 and is unlikely to become an Assassin’s Creed favorite. Ubisoft did not include it in the list of games for which it will end support in 2022, but it has now been removed from Steam “at the request of the publisher”.

Now, as a general rule, when a game is retired, you can still play it if you already own it. Rockstar’s GTA Trilogy, for example, can be downloaded and played by anyone who owns it. On the other hand, the Steam page for Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD states that the game “will no longer be available as of September 1, 2022”.

So starting in September, even if you have this single-player Assassin’s Creed game in your Steam library, you won’t be able to play it; in fact, it will most likely be pulled from libraries as well. The game is also not listed on the publisher’s Ubisoft Connect store. The reason for the exclusion is unclear, but based on reviews on Steam, Liberation has had technical issues for some time.

We are trying to confirm if this includes the copy of Assassin’s Creed Liberation that is also included with Assassin’s Creed III Remastered. We will update this post when we have confirmation.

Your best bet for Assassin’s Creed is to play the latest Valhalla game, which concludes its story later this year.
