if you buy now Blade Runner: Advanced Edition on Steamyou also get the version ScummVMIt was released in 2019 and is in many ways much better than its predecessor. In fact, the Steam version is equal to the GOG version, which immediately includes the two versions.
Unfortunately that’s what it sounds like: A team of enthusiasts did far better than the pros at Nightdive Studios. It’s too bad they didn’t get paid to buy the game, so much so that it sparked the anger of one of the authors of the ScummVM version, Thomas Fach-Pedersen, who saw his use of his work as morally despicable. A team of fans trying to cover up the bad work: “It looks like Nightdive Studio decided to respond to the harsh criticism it received on Steam by copying and selling ours while I slept. Shameless. Technically legal but morally horrible.”
However, Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition has been automatically updated on Steam to include the classic version. As stated by Fach-Pedersen, legally Nightdive has every right to do so because it owns the rights to the game. Of course, whoever made this version could have given it minimal consideration. The software house also announced that it has taken note of all the feedback and is working on the first official patch for the Enhanced Edition, which will be released soon.
If asked, this is good news given the state it’s in, which seems more humiliating than an improvement version of the original.
