Denuvo’s new DRM technology promises to crack down on DLC piracy

A new type of DRM technology from Denuvo promises to crack down on DLC piracy. The software, called Denuvo SecureDLC, is already integrated for customers using Denuvo’s tamper protection and modifies the platform’s API to block attacks and prevent unauthorized access.

“Denuvo has become a one-stop shop for game developers to protect their games from fraud, counterfeiting and piracy, and to safeguard their gaming experience,” Reinhard Blaukowitz, CEO of Denuvo, said in a statement. “Our current customers, large and small, are delighted with the results and we are excited to help them maximize their revenue and create new business models for these games they have worked so hard to create.”

The press release and website don’t mention which customers are using it, though it’s probably safe to say that Sega, Capcom, and other usual suspects have or will implement it in the future, especially as we get closer to the release of major DLC. for games like Resident Evil Village.

Denuvo gets a bad rap for making games unplayable, and it’s not entirely undeserved. When Resident Evil Village was released on PC, it became a stutter due to the high CPU requirements of Denuvo DRM, although the extent of Denuvo-related issues generally depends on the game in question. Resident Evil, for example, used Capcom’s proprietary DRM, which we think might not interoperate well with Denuvo.

Either way, Capcom was quick to fix the issues, and while expanding the DRM protection layer to include additional content sounds like this could create a lot of potential issues, it’s likely that they won’t, hopefully, break the game.

If you’re looking for a fresh install, whether it’s for Denuvo or just for fun, we’ve rounded up the best gaming PCs of 2022 for you.
