Nvidia GeForce GTX 1630 is just a more expensive GTX 1050 Ti

The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1630 has quite a few surprises, but not just because the green team is backing a three-year lineup while the Nvidia RTX 4000 series looms on the horizon. Now that the graphics card is official, aftermarket brands are doing their comparisons, and you can expect performance to match that of the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and its non-Ti sibling.

That’s not too surprising given that the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1630 specs show a stripped-down version of the GTX 1650, but it’s not the graphics card launch that any of us envisioned in 2022. The GTX 1630 will set you back between $169 and $ 199 depending on which model you’re getting ahead of, while Inno3D says (via ITHome) it will offer similar performance to the GTX 1050 Ti, which launched in 2016 for suggested retail price. from $139.

However, Nvidia doesn’t just copy and paste, as there are some subtle differences. The GTX 1630 is based on the Turing architecture, which is similar to the RTX 2000 series but without ray tracing capabilities. This means that it is slightly more powerful than the previous Pascal architecture, with an improved media decoder that can handle VP8 or H.265 (HEVC) 4:4:4 codecs.

We could throw numbers at you, telling you that the 1815 MHz clock speed on the GTX 1630 is much faster than the 1392 MHz GTX 1050 Ti (and that’s a record for the GTX 16 series), or that its 512 CUDA cores are within the rear over the 768 CUDA cores of its predecessor. All that really matters is that gaming performance is on par with a nearly six-year-old graphics card and underperforms the more affordable $159 AMD Radeon RX 6400 MSRP in TechPowerUp’s review.

Whenever you’re about to upgrade your graphics card, you might hear people telling you to wait and that a new version is imminent. Well, this time it’s true, and it looks like the GTX 1630 sets the bar so low that it’s worth the wait. Heck, even the GTX 1650 seems to perform 54% better and can be found for the same price if you search online.
