You can finally play Doom RPG on PC, and if your first answer is “now what”, that’s why this is good news for Doom fans. In 2005, Fountainhead Entertainment, best known for Orcs and Elves, released Doom RPG for mobile, a sequel to Doom 3 that was released just in time to complement the infamously bad Doom movie and fueled the sequel and role-playing game Wolfenstein.

As you’d expect from the title, Doom RPG is a turn-based RPG that borrows elements from the mainstream first-person shooter Doom, including weapons and characters, and reinvents combat and exploration, albeit deviating drastically from the formula. Doom’s regular. , it came out pretty good. Doom RPG won Adventure Game of the Year and Mobile Game of the Year in 2005 and even spawned a sequel for the iPhone.

The problem was that the first Doom RPG was stuck on old technology. The game’s Fandom page says that the latest version, released in 2007, “may only be available” for Nokia phones. While game files exist on sites like Archive.org, Erick194 and Anarkavre’s Doom RPG PC project is the first proper port.

The creators have redesigned Doom RPG so that it theoretically works like a normal PC game, without the need for a Nokia phone.

You’ll need the original game files and some mods to get it to work, but Erick194 explains how to do it on the Doom forums.

Meanwhile, the Wolfenstein sequel and RPG is much easier to access and play, so it’s unclear if the duo plans to port it.

The Doom modding community has been quite active lately. One recent project is turning Doom 64 on PC into something closer to Doom Eternal, while another decided demons weren’t enough and added vampires to Doom because why not?
