Square Enix has announced that starting August 30, players will no longer be able to purchase gems via microtransactions. The reasons behind the shutdown of servers in the West were not disclosed, but we assume that over time the number of active players dropped so much that the company decided to leave it active in the homeland only.

Ichiro Hazama, producer of Final Fantasy Record Keeper, shared a message to fans of the game: “For me, this project has been a treasure trove of the boundless wonders of the FF franchise. Of course, it has never been able to convey all of its charm. I mean. It’s found in FF games. But to you, iconic pixel art graphics, I think we’re able to deliver music, incredible combat systems, and so much more,” Hazama said.

“Seven years ago, when it all started, the number of characters was limited and the strategic elements were still relatively simple. But thanks to a lot of people at DeNA and of course all of you, the players, we were able to create the game . Let me sincerely thank you all for everything throughout! I hope our paths cross again one day.”

Development producer Yu Sasaki instead said:

“I want to sincerely thank all our Final Fantasy Record Keeper players, past and present. Without each and every one of you, we would never have been able to sustain this for over seven years. Pixel art is one of my favorite genres, which is why over the past seven years, I’ve spent the last seven years from previous Final Fantasy games and Tyro et al. It was my pleasure to be able to bring you pixel art versions of so many moments from their adventures. As the Final Fantasy series celebrates its 35th anniversary, I have no doubt that it will continue to bring legendary stories to us this year as well. I hope you will continue to enjoy these stories in the years to come. Thank you for being a part of it. thank you very much!”
