The latest Dead Cells update does things a little differently and makes the game accessible to a much wider audience. Called Breaking Barriers, the update is the first accessibility update to Dead Cells that Motion Twin and Evil Empire began testing in January 2022. The developers worked closely with the charity AbleGamers to enable those previously unable to play roguelikes. they will enjoy it
“During beta testing, we received feedback that some people who ‘don’t need’ the help mode will use it independently and therefore won’t play Dead Cells as a hardcore roguelike,” said an Evil Empire spokesperson. . “We’ve posted some messages about this in-game, but ultimately it’s up to the player how they want to enjoy the game. However, we won’t disable achievements for players who use these options. We’re not going to let people play the game and then take away His achievements”.
The Breaking Barriers update has two parts. One is a collection of changes to various parts of Dead Cells, including changes to the UI size and font size, custom controls, and background color filters. They all live in the new accessibility menu.
The second part is the assist mode, which includes a bunch of extra options like multiple lives. This feature allows players to customize the brutality of Dead Cells by choosing 1, 3, 7, or infinite lives, but not just because the game can be difficult.
“It’s for players who have involuntary movements or activities, like muscle spasms, to get another chance if their career is affected by something out of their control,” said Evil Empire.
Auxiliary mode also allows players to adjust trap damage and activate the auto-hit feature to reduce the amount of action required during combat.
There are a significant number of other improvements to both features, which you can check out on the Breaking Barriers patch notes page. And that’s not all. Motion Twin and Evil Empire previously promised a year of free Dead Cells updates in late 2021, and confirmed that even more biomes and other new content are planned for late 2022.
