Moving around in VR can ruin immersion, but a new gaming chair could help you navigate Oculus Quest 2 games while sitting down. Dubbed the SitWalk VR Controller, the seat features a dial you can turn with your feet, meaning you don’t have to think about joysticks or jump around the living room.

Presumably this will be achieved by adding locomotive controls to the base of the chair, almost like a big cross for your little ones. The rotation in the seat acts as a 360 degree movement in the game, so you don’t have to deal with weird tank controls like in the old Resident Evil games.
The company behind the invention, Vaxis Inc, says it will “reduce motion sickness and space constriction,” two factors that could be a barrier to virtual reality. The demo video uses Half-Life: Alyx to show off the chair’s capabilities, but without trying it out for yourself it’s hard to know if it’s an effective solution.
It’s worth noting that the Sitwalk VR Controller is a crowdfunded project, so there’s no guarantee it’ll make it to market. The chair also sells for a premium, with the $999 “standard version” not actually including the seat. For the entire package, you’ll need to select the “premium version”, which retails for a whopping $1499 with a discount for early adopters.
The SitWalk VR controller joins a bunch of VR accessories trying to solve the problem of getting around in cyberspace, including those chunky boots and a fairly large treadmill. Compared to the last controller seat, perhaps a bit more traditional, though the end result is reminiscent of the space jockey from Alien.
