The new Intel Arc Alchemist A730M GPU for gaming laptops is now supported in official drivers, but the A770M and A550M are not supported yet. The update follows benchmarks that show the chip struggling to keep up with the RTX 3060 despite being one of the blue team’s high-end solutions.
Instead of launching a new driver, Intel Arc Alchemist The A730M mount looks like an upgrade. The software has the same build number as the version released over a week ago, but the addition of GPU support technically means it’s a new iteration. The new edition now also lists “Intel Game On Driver Support for Sniper Elite 5,” which should be good news for first-person shooter fans playing on a blue team laptop.
Intel seems to be having issues with its GPU drivers, which could explain the line’s paper release. Arc Alchemist gaming laptops are still listed as “coming soon” at stores like Best Buy, while rumors say desktop variants will launch in August instead of early summer.
Intel’s attempt to break into the best graphics card market failed, and the imminent appearance of contenders Nvidia RTX 4000 could hamper its success. Of course, the company says it could release a new GPU every year until 2025, so maybe the CPU giant will learn a few tricks from its first foray.
