Genshin Impact Producer Promises Zenless Zone Zero For Summer Game Fest

Genshin Impact creator HoYoverse will be performing at an event other than E3 2022, bringing Zenless Zone Zero to Summer Game Fest with never-before-seen footage. While we knew that HoYoverse was one of the many developers backing Jeff Keighley’s demo, there was no confirmation of what the RPG experts would reveal during the event. The recent Summer Game Fest trailer hinted at Zenless Zone Zero for a brief moment, and the show’s creator, Geoff Keighley, confirmed it on tweeter that ZZZ is the central finding of HoYovere.

Zenless Zone Zero is a departure from Genshin Impact. It replaces the sprawling hills and open spaces of Teyvat with an urban setting more akin to Square Enix’s The World Ends With You, with ramen shops, video stores, and the populous metropolis of New Eridu as its central setting.

As for what happened to the old Eridu, it is no longer like that, as is almost all the remnants of the world of Zenless Zone Zero after it was destroyed by a terrible apocalypse. This disaster also introduced Hollows, an anomalous phenomenon that appears out of nowhere and consumes everything around them.

The people of New Eridu, and certainly the playable characters of Zenless Zone Zero, are special in that they can mine Aether from Hollows and use it to power machines, buildings, and their own special abilities.

Zenless Zone Zero might not be the only thing HoYoverse has in store for Summer Game Fest. Some fans have speculated that the first trailer for this event was a brief reference to what appeared to be a character from Genshin Impact, and a business analyst said that HoYoverse will show a trailer for the Genshin version 2.8 update during the event.

However, that seems a bit less likely given Hoyoverse’s usual pattern for update trailers.

Honkai Star Rail, a turn-based Hoyoverse spinoff based on the world of Honkai Impact, is also on the table for potential reveals. The game is currently in its second open beta, though apart from some character teasers, we still have a lot to see.

If you need more RPGs until then, check out the current Genshin Impact events and plan ahead for your next Genshin Impact banner by stocking up on some of these Primogems events.
