ESO High Isle Expansion Brings a Tolkien Touch to Tamriel

The Elder Scrolls Online High Isle expansion is out now, bringing with it new lands, friends, and a citadel invasion that would fit right in with JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. Or maybe we’re just daydreaming a bit about the land of the hobbits right now, seeing Billy Boyd, who played Pippin Tuk in Peter Jackson’s adaptation of The Lord of the Rings, voicing one of the major new characters in High Isle.

The High Isle expansion is the first for an MMO game to add an entirely new location designed specifically for Bethesda’s online game. The action takes place in the Sistra Archipelago, a chain of islands full of contrasts and intrigue. The towering Breton fortresses and sprawling cities of Haute-Île are flanked by volcanoes, majestic cliffs, and even jungles, but the dangers of the outside world are the least of your worries.

The latest expansion continues the Breton story that began in March and follows an entirely new story filled with intrigue and conspiracy. This time, your enemy is the mysterious Lord of the Ascendants, a mysterious figure hell-bent on plunging the world into endless war. As usual with ESO expansions, the full story unfolds over the next year with several new challenges and world events to keep you busy in the meantime.

Chief among these new additions is Tales of Tribute, a deep deckbuilding game with PvE and PvP elements that grows and changes with the number of characters you challenge across the world. Boyd had previously commented that Panties’ optimistic outlook, love of life, and teamwork matched his own so much that it made the role particularly enjoyable for him.

This isn’t the first time Lord of the Rings alumni have given their talents to the series. Sean Bean voiced Martin Septim in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

However, High Isle is more than just a Hobbit card party. When you’re not challenging everyone in sight in a card game, you can explore the less attractive islands of the archipelago in Dreadsail Reef’s new challenge, a 12-player game that pits your party against a gang of infamous pirates. . There’s also the Volcanic Vents world event, where you’ll have to help local druids tame a recent wave of highly active volcanic vents that threaten to destroy the islands.

Two new companions join you in the archipelago. Isobel is a Breton knight with a strong sense of duty, especially to you, while Ember is a Khajiit with a penchant for all things magical and a rather tragic past.
