The Manti group from Galactic Civilizations IV wants their children back

Galactic Civilizations IV is out now and you can control the factions of an entire galaxy as you try to conquer the stars in Stardock’s latest 4X game. We’ve covered many of the 18 civilizations in the game and there are only a few left, and we’re turning our attention to a civilization whose journey through the stars has only one goal: to find their lost children.

The Manty Cluster’s first encounter with extraterrestrial life was not a pleasant one. Shortly after these lobster-like creatures made their presence known in the galaxy, raiders of unknown origin descended on their planet and captured an entire generation of children, permanently traumatizing Manty’s collective psyche.

This glitch causes the Manty cluster to start Galactic Civilizations IV with fewer inhabitants than other civilizations. And yet, despite this, and perhaps because of this, they have morphed into a surprisingly combat-ready military society. Trusting no one, Manti’s Paranoid trait grants free defense drones for Manti planets and orbital infrastructure, as well as additional hit points for their ships when within their own borders. Mantises also have the Warrior trait, which causes their ships to ignore the first 10% of damage they take and also increases the range of all weapons. Now they roam the galaxy, desperately trying to find clues to the whereabouts of their lost generation, and woe betide anyone who gets in their way!

The raid on Manty’s homeworld brought the planet together in a way few civilizations do. United by a common goal, Manty worlds are far less prone to cultural change. However, since mantises are an aquatic species, the approval of their citizens largely depends on whether or not they live on aquatic worlds. Unsurprisingly, they distrust diplomacy; they firmly believe in the ideology of transparency, and relationships will be difficult if you are not honest.

Manty’s homeworld is a water-rich planet with many tiles that can be used to increase production, research, and food production.

The sole purpose of the Mantis to find their stolen children is evident even in the command ships a civilization may call upon to help itself. Each of them serves as a research vessel capable of scanning anomalies and exploring space.

  • pearl bubble glea – This little ship can generate additional research every time it investigates an anomaly or other interstellar object.
  • Little Dragon – With decent power for its class, this little ship is a good candidate for sheltered anomaly fights and early game fleet battles.
  • cold of the deep – A small, lightly armed ship that increases the range of its sensors as it levels up, making it ideal for long-range scouting and early warning of danger.
  • sheltered sky – Defense-oriented medium ship designed specifically to locate the “lost generation” and ensure that no one can harm them again.
  • Pickled brachiura – A no-frills mid-hulled ship with impressive defenses and offensive weapons, as well as shooting capabilities.
  • sibilant joint – Large ship with impressive defenses and powerful long-range missiles.
  • To spit “Another capital ship, it’s not as well armed as the Whistling Bank… but it’s Perhaps they have an antimatter bomb that can be devastating under certain circumstances.

As Manty, you will be able to face off against other warrior civilizations and have food production to sustain your empire for generations to come. You’ll need to make sure you keep up production and research, and you’ll also need to work harder than most to keep your population happy if you’re struggling to colonize water worlds.

For Manta, the intrigues and politics of the galactic community in general are considered, at best, an amusing distraction. Finding your long lost children is Only what matters and this strong narrative gives them an engaging hook to use to channel their energy as it expands into space.

Sorry for the hijackers. To quote the wise Liam Neeson, manta rays have “a very specific set of abilities.” they will be finally find the culprit. We’re sure you can guess what’s going to happen next. Galactic Civilizations IV is now available for PC.
