Oculus Quest 2 can compete with Apple’s VR headset

The Meta Quest 2 (formerly the Oculus Quest 2) is arguably one of the best VR headsets you can buy today, despite stiff competition from companies like Valve Index. However, Apple may want to take Meta’s market share in the VR space with its own VR device and operating system.

Parker Ortolani accepted Twitter share some of the branded applications for “realityOS”, which may indicate that Apple is considering disclosing its oculus quest 2 attending their WWDC conference on June 6 (via UploadVR). Ortolani notes that the company “usually branded products announced at WWDC a day or two after the keynote,” and we tend to agree with his assessment that “that would be a huge coincidence.”

The term “realityOS” has been showing up in Apple’s source code since earlier this year, but those documents also indicate we’ll see it used in a VR system since the trademark refers to “portable computing.”

We know very little about Apple’s potential competitor Oculus Quest 2, but we can’t help but think they missed the point by not calling their VR operating system “eyeOS.”

Puns aside, any potential Quest 2 competitor will also have to deal with the threat of Project Cambria. We should also not forget what Zuckerberg and company have in store for the corresponding Oculus Quest 3 headset, though it will no doubt be called Meta Quest 3 when it finally arrives.
