In World of Warcraft: Shadowlands update 9.2.5, available tomorrow (May 31), Alliance and Horde members will be able to form groups for certain types of group activities. This means that you will be able to join factions and groups and play MMORPGs with your friends, even if they have sworn allegiance to your archenemies.
Shadowlands update 9.2.5 is a major patch that adds new quest lines for blood elves and Dark Iron dwarves, as well as a new PvP arena called Enigma Crucible. All Torghast, Tower of the Damned wings will be unlocked (only two wings were unlocked per week) and the player report menu bar has been changed.
But perhaps the biggest change in this patch is the addition of faction instances. Note that this is not all things to all, as the Alliance and the Horde as a whole remain hostile to each other. However, if you have a BattleTag or Real ID friendship with a player who is a member of the opposite faction, you will be able to invite them to a party after the update is released.
However, pre-created party leaders can make their parties faction-exclusive, and there are other restrictions on faction play. Random Co-op: Heroic Dungeons, Skirmishes, and Battlegrounds are randomized, meaning they all still belong to the same faction, and there are some instances that will stay linked to the same faction.
This includes:
- Champion’s Challenge
- Crusader’s Judgment
- Archavon Crypt
- Icecrown Citadel
- strong baradin
- Siege of Boralus
- Battle of Dazar’alor
- Darkhammer Citadel (Exile’s Reach Dungeon)
More information about factional play can be found on the official World of Warcraft blog.
