Just two years after joining Gunzilla Games, District 9 and former Elysium director Neil Blomkamp has announced a new Battle Royale title.
In a recent interview with GameSpot’s Jordan Ramée, Blomkamp explained that this isn’t your average Battle Royale-style game. Instead, this new title – Off the Grid – will be a “narrative-based progression system” with a cyberpunk tinge.
Comparing the style of the campaign, Blomkamp says, “The approach is to integrate the story so that players can jump right into the battle on the piano or have the option to dive into the story and story missions. ” Mentioned.
Players on the jump are set to join one of three factions battling for control of a single point of wealth. Within these settings, in each match, players will have story missions and side missions that can complete their faction goals. However, keep in mind that other players from different factions will be given similar tasks to raise their own funds. Just because someone chooses to play story mode doesn’t mean they are protected from PvP.
“So players can choose missions where your faction can directly oppose the opposing faction’s mission, both tied into a larger-scale narrative. And you do it in an open movement environment. Obviously, this opened up the possibility of the actor’s actions having an impact on the long-term narrative. While details on this have yet to be released, Blomklamp confirmed that this was the design team’s intention. He called it “Battle Royale 2.0”, where player behavior “has a long-term impact on the story, the world and the environment”.
Given the rich world created by Blomkamp and the game’s scriptwriter Richard Morgan, the plot possibilities and “layers” seem to create a compelling story for the players you enter.
The Off the Grid release is scheduled for 2023.
