Niantic Labs to Release Peridot’s ‘Adventure Pet Game’

Niantic Labs, the developer of Ingress, Pokemon GO and Pikmin Bloom, has announced a new project: Peridot.

The developer announced a new augmented reality project on Twitter, published and then uploaded by a verified Niantic Labs account: Peridot, a virtual pet game. According to a brief blurb in the announcement tweet, Peridot is a “real-world pet adventure game” where players breed and raise unique creatures.

Players will enter the “Fantastic Peridot World” where they will encounter, nurture, heal into adulthood, and then have the opportunity to breed these uniquely titled fantastical creatures. The object of the game is to “re-diversify” the species of Peridot and prevent their extinction.

During the game, players can color, feed, play and learn the tricks of their period to help them grow. This keeps them healthy and allows them to reach adulthood. They can also walk their pets wherever they want to go, with the convenience of a single smartphone app.

As soon as it reaches adulthood, Peridot will have extraordinary qualities that can be passed on to its children – who in turn can develop and become more unique than their parents. There will be several in-game features that will make creatures look unreal.

Peridot will soon enter a soft-launch period with a limited release to effectively run the game’s beta testing. Niantic will likely use the user experience to improve the game ahead of its global release.
