Eagle Eye Redditor noticed that work on the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has appeared on Steam, noting that the Call of Duty series may drop Battle.net exclusivity and see a release on Valve’s storefront.
As your / Kalinin noticed and posted on Reddit, Modern Warfare 2 Ghost’s new work has “appeared on Steam”. When asked if it was legal, the user added, “It’s shown at the bottom of the DLC page for Call of Duty games like Black Ops 3. Other users have independently verified that the image is here.
The image was quickly removed from Steam and replaced with a blank image, further fueling the rumours. For seven years, Activision has been promoting the CoD series exclusively to users on its own Battle.net. This news may indicate that this exclusivity may be about to end. This will be welcome for Steam gamers who have to watch from the sidelines or play Call of Duty on other platforms.
Activision has yet to confirm a Steam release for Modern Warfare 2.
Infinity Ward is the developer of the latest installment in the Call of Duty and Warzone series, which is slated for release on October 28.
