It’s been a long wait but finally, finally, the second installment of the series from Jason Aaron and RM Guéra has arrived via Planeta Cómic.
The Bible has always been accompanied by the slogan “the book of books”. It is something that has arisen because it has an incomparable importance in people’s lives. along with any other literary work. They are texts that shape the ideology of Western history, for believers as well as for all who doubt or deny the existence of God.
However, as trite as it may seem, it is still fascinating and key to understanding human behavior. Pscepter with the origin of all things to the end† And it is an intensity and poetic ambiguity that is open to thousands of interpretations. It created conflicts, some of which still exist today.
In short, it has an undeniable power, full of unknowns that spark extremely interesting debates. Enough to feel like you’ve never scraped more from the surface than is written.
It is a very difficult task to quantify the number of creatures directly or indirectly inspired by the Bible. Like examining the different positions surrounding this book, these range from the most loyal to the most critically destructive.
And the world kept turning. And the book of books is there, intact, patiently judging humanity and waiting for new interpretations.
Contemporary American comics have often taken a cynical and iconoclastic view of the religious possibility. This makes sense, as they were able to form their own pantheon with the abilities to bring about the miracles and divine punishments described in the Bible.
Consistent where agnosticism, atheism, secularism (or non-practice of theoretically accepted belief) tend to gain more and more weight. The fear of hell is gone because it shouldn’t be too different from what you see on the news every day.
Most religious thinking is rooted in fear of the idea that the alternative is eternal torture. This is a really powerful and disturbing idea. But at a time when it was fading, it took a long time for a cultural product through religion to come onto the market that dared to be terrifying again.† Thus, of all the possible approaches, none, even remotely, is like the one suggested by him. devastated† It is about filtering through a very personal filter the most inhuman and violent aspects found in some of the texts of the Bible. In the words of the author, respected Jason Aaron: “It stems from my fascination with the Bible and its stories. I wanted to combine these kinds of stories with the stories I made.” No better summary of what to expect devastated†
Anyone who is fully familiar with Aaron’s most trusted works knows what he means. Someone with a particular obsession with oppressive mediums in the key to raw neo-noir. Their characters are morally ambiguous, but they’re not complete monsters without a bit of goodness in them.† He is the heir to the current created by Rucka or Ed Brubaker, but carries it to an extreme instinctive brutality of his own.
With that in mind, your precious cousin’s Gustav Hasford He decided to transform this frightening sensibility into a text clear to him, like the Bible. These pages contain some of the most horrific barbarism ever written. The remaining question is When would the meeting be held?
hit stores in 2015 before the floodsomething the reader is not used to. It was a leap out of Jason Aaron’s comfort zone. But also for the reader who didn’t expect anything like that.
The first murderer, Cain son of Adam, is the hero of a world in which Noah, a fanatical landlord, takes a hostile place.or. Putting the reader in the most uncomfortable situation possible and solving the mystery of the characters before God is already a wake-up call.† This was not going to be a typical story.
It is also shocking that the pace of the story is so fast. It is an epic of rescue and survival by hostile tribes that have nothing to envy the craziest people. crazy max† Because victory is impossible, because there is an evil God waiting for the best moment to punish man, no matter how much he wins.
Therefore, this project has a strong nihilistic component that may not be liked by everyone. Everything here is disturbing, there is no speck of hope. It seems to have nothing to do with ours because of the cruelty of this universe. But it is, it just scratches the surface.
But if there is anything here, it is a clear indication of the self-destructive component that always accompanies human nature. Outside of ideologies, there were already conflicting factions and power struggles to which only natural law obeyed.
The Damned: Before the Flood It’s the best type of reading: it’s one that challenges you and asks you to rethink everything you thought you knew.† destroys you But it also entertains you and leaves you tired and wanting to continue living in a world that can’t breathe. After all, the obstacles of editing do not make it dangerous. Seemingly…
It took more than five years to enjoy a new dose of this epic. And recently came the second part, virgin virgins† Both share a tone, an atmosphere, but the stories couldn’t be more specific.
In this case, the protagonists are two young women who will be commercialized as a divine tribute. They live in an all-female civilization who have found the perfect match for the Lord. When the heroes see that the results of this lifestyle are not enough, they decide to walk away without the next person on the list.
For this reason, a more candid tone has been chosen, in which the charisma and assertions of the protagonists (which are quite in line with the era of social change that humanity is currently going through) are central to this second part. It comes from where it came from, something that shocks and surprises the reader, something every sequel should strive for.
But it does so while maintaining the same virtues and moral standing as in volume one. It’s constant, to the extent that you’re confronted by some characters who are confronted with things that are big for them. The reader desperately wants them to prevail and all is well (which is strange considering they’re not virtuous at all), but it’s just for a final slap in the face.
This is another mastery of storytelling that makes it clear that Aaron is trying to partially take revenge on some of the impositions that come with the super-whore genre, and it’s what’s kept him busy for years.† It also serves to regain some of its recently questioned prestige. Welcome home.
Dirty and Rude Art RM Guera Make it the perfect choice to turn this story into pictures. This is a project he has done and has seen tremendous participation. A world in which he is creative as well as consistent, his designs deserve a special mention. He’s looking for a way to make vignettes compelling and iconic in the sense that they’re adventures of sword and sorcery. Conan the BarbarianAdhering to what is commonly associated with the Old Testament.
Somehow his art manages to bring something closer, otherwise it would be very difficult to get someone’s attention. But he’s also a top-notch storyteller and manages to permeate these pages with more than apparent power and visual intensity. Worked with Aaron for years scalp peeled offmakes this synergy very present here. Simple and straightforward, challenging and worthwhile work.
Colors Giulia Brusco they give a handmade direction to the whole, which is in perfect harmony with the story. Colors are never sharp and always respond to naturalistic choices. They are dry, barren. Warm ones never try to bring some light, they also turn out to be thick. It’s mostly blues. Even the most optimistic and warm tones are colors derived from blue. As if it were a dark curse that could not be escaped. He perfectly understands not only Guéra’s drawing, but also the meaning of the work. If there is a constant oppressive atmosphere, it is largely because of it.
devastated This is a brutal and disturbing read. It grabs him by the neck and leaves him breathless. If you think you’re going to die, he’ll let you go. But only to give you a massive amount of backstabbing when you think you’re free. this much devastated†
And despite this, the third part is needed as soon as possible.
