Another closed studio due to NetEase Games. The Chinese company closed the studio Shakalyptic gameswho worked on a massively multiplayer game from the world Warhammer.

The news was officially confirmed by the founder of the studio. Jack Emmerta renowned veteran of the genre who has in the past been behind games such as City of Heroes, Star Trek Online or DC Universe Online. For MMO fans, this is another sad news after the as yet unconfirmed cancellation of development. Lord of the Rings from Amazon.

“I would like to inform you that after almost three and a half years of working with NetEase Games as a third-party studio, our partnership is ending. We thank you for the support and resources you provided us during development. Now we help our talented colleagues find new opportunities.” Emmert said this in a post on LinkedIn.

The studio was founded in 2022 as Jackalope Games and renamed Jackalyptic Games shortly after. Emmert joined the project after his previous Marvel-themed title was cancelled. The new studio received financial support from the Chinese giant NetEase and was supposed to produce an accessible MMO set in the Warhammer universe, a brand to which Emmert has a personal connection.

The project was officially announced in May 2023 and, according to the developers, was supposed to offer gameplay focused on authenticity and reliably conveying the atmosphere of the brand. But in recent months, as NetEase has closed or restructured several of its studios, it’s Jackalyptic’s turn. Previously, NetEase closed the studio of the former World of Warcraft designer and other teams.
