Chinese company NetEase Games limits financial support for Western research. The result was a wave of layoffs, project cancellations and studio closures. In just a few weeks, a third studio has already announced its closure – this time we are talking about Bad Brain Game Studioa team consisting of former Ubisoft developers who had previously worked on e.g. Watchdogs: Legion.

Bad Brain was founded in 2023 in Toronto, Canada and was developing an ambitious game called Midnight Riders. It was supposed to be a story-driven adventure set in a dark, movie-style world with a group of teenagers. Sample for me personally Reminds me of the Netflix series Stranger Things.. Founder and head of the studio Sean Crooks announced that after unsuccessful attempts to find a new publisher, the studio will permanently close on November 17th.

“We are very sorry, but Bad Brain Game Studios will go bankrupt. Despite our best efforts to find a new partner, we have not been able to find a way forward.” Crooks wrote about this on social networks. He also thanked NetEase for their support and team members for their commitment: “Our team put everything they could into the project. Every day we pushed the boundaries of creativity and technology,” He added that the brand and the project itself are available for purchase.
