The Xbox version works best, the PlayStation version needs some work. Comparison of The Outer Worlds 2 – INDIAN

Continuation of the sci-fi action film Obsidian. The Outer Worlds 2is finally here, and with it a comparison of the console versions from Digital Foundry. The game immediately shows a larger budget, but which version turned out better?

The game runs on Unreal Engine 5 and according to a thorough analysis of all three versions. Xbox Series X version beats both PlayStation versions, including PS5 Pro. At first glance, all versions look the same, but a closer look reveals that the PS5 has worse images, lower resolution, frame rate drops, and screen tearing even in performance mode. Digital Foundry editors also noticed a slight decrease in lighting on PS5.

As for the PS5 Pro, it uses Sony’s upscaler. PSSRwhich interacts poorly with Lumen lighting or lighting effects. As such, Digital Foundry concludes that frame rates on PS5 Pro drop in more intense battles, and overall gameplay is noticeably worse than on Series X. It also suggests that The Outer Worlds 2 may have used some native hardware functions in Xbox Series X/S, which do not have either a PS5 or PS5 Pro, but this has not been confirmed.

It’s clear that the PlayStation version still needs some work, so hopefully Obsidian will release a patch soon. As for display modes, the game offers 3 – Quality, balance and performance. Quality mode focuses on making the visuals as good as possible in exchange for 30fps. Balanced offers 40fps while maintaining similar quality, but small concessions are already visible. In Performance mode, the game starts at 60 fpsbut there is less vegetation in the world, and the resolution of objects is reduced. The graphics are the same throughout most of the game, but as mentioned above, the Xbox version is much better.
