Ghost of Yotei, similar to Ghost of Tsushima. focuses on breathtaking landscapes and sensitively crafted inspiration from Japanese culture. So it’s no surprise that players are sharing videos full of beautiful scenery, combat, and helpful tutorials.

One of them appeared on the X Network and shows the character Atsu drawing and sheathing his Odachi, a large Japanese sword. Although this capture looks impressive, the author of the post doubts that it is even feasible in the real world. Masters of the Tenshinryu Hyoho school began to react to the video, demonstrating how they handle similar weapons in real life. The extension of the blade was very realistic – even the detail where Atsu briefly grabs the blade with his hand is based on authentic techniques. In contrast, the sword thrust was already noticeably stylized in the game and adapted for dramatic effect.

The video soon went viral, and even PlayStation responded to the wave of interest by working with members of Tenshinryu Hyoho – the same group involved in the motion capture for Ghost of Yotei – Selected battle scenes from the game have been reconstructed. In these demos, fighters demonstrate different weapons and fighting styles, which became the inspiration for the development of the game itself.
