Intel will produce SOC with graphic chips from NVIDIA.
Cooperation between the two giants of the technological industry is not considered, and therefore, like lightning from a clear sky, a report with which NVIDIA came. The company that focuses on the development of graphic chips for personal use and the data center has announced cooperation with its competitor Intel.
But we are talking not only about cooperation, perhaps the largest and most amazing moment of announcement is that NVIDIA invests $ 5 billion (approximately 103 billion Czech crowns) in the form of shares, a ratio of $ 23.28 per share. The market markets quickly reacted, and Intel shares jumped by more than 20 %. However, the purchase should still be approved by the competent authorities.
Investments come after Intel has been faced with financial problems for a long time to lag behind competition in the processor segment, as well as chips for artificial intelligence calculations. At the end of August this year, the US administration announced that she bought 10% of the company’s shares (worth 11.1 billion dollars). In the long run, they talked about the possible separation of the company, because in addition to the development of chips, Intel also has plants for their production using its own processes.
As for the content of cooperation itself, Intel is designed to create its own SOC with the X86 architecture into personal computers that will integrate the RTX graphic chips from NVIDIA. For the Intel data processing center, the X86 processors should produce its own processors, which NVIDIA will use in its infrastructure of AI.
“This historical cooperation is closely connected with AI and accelerated NVIDIA calculations with processors and the vast X86 Intel Ecosystem – the connection of two world platforms.” Commented by CEO Nvidi Jensen Juang. “Together we will expand our ecosystems and put the foundations for the next era of computer technology.”
According to Juang, cooperation agreed for about a year. The current general director of Intel Lip-Bu Tan, who began his office in March, was supposed to agree with the head of Nvidia from the first day. “This is a really big, important milestone,” Tan said. “I would call it a breakthrough cooperation.”
Although Intel is a huge salvation, the influence on customers is not yet clear. First of all, the future of the Intel ARC graphic chips, which recently began to start and began to begin the AS and XE2/Battlemage architecture, was quite successful in the field of integrated chips and highlighted video cards. However, given the cooperation with NVIDIA, it is likely that Intel will completely cancel this division.
