A predictable story with the average gameplay.

Mafia: This time, to my homeland brought us by the beginning of the 20th century, where we testify to the birth of organized crime. Of course, a large and fresh change in comparison with the previous episodes of the mafia is a change in the environment: instead of busy modern cities this time, we visit various corners of beautiful Sicilian nature, where horses are still widely used for transportation, and good wine is grown. In this action, but often predictable and classical history, we not only find the beauty of this world, but also feel what it is like to create respect in the mafia family with all the advantages and disadvantages that such a life brings.

Welcome to the family

The main actor of the game becomes a young man named Enzo Favar. After, like a little, his father sold it to work on sulfur mines, led by the criminal family of Spadaro, he practically knows nothing but hard work and even more diligent treatment from local guards. Once, however, something goes wrong in the mines, and Enzo manages to escape. The escape will take him to another family of the mafia. This leads Don Torrisi and decides to accept Enza. Of course, not directly in the family. With Enzo you will initially have simple work in the form of wearing various boxes or fertilizers. Nevertheless, this is not bad for the enars, because at least every day in the stomach has something warm.

Subsequently, you will be welcomed by the old well -known classic of such gangster films and previous games. You will encounter different characters, where, of course, those who are kind to you, help you, or with those who have not got into your eyes from the very beginning. Nevertheless, the characters are well written, and, of course, everyone will find their beloved and not sympathetic bad guy. Enzo, on the other hand, is a pretty good guy, and from the very beginning to the end, his character will undergo interesting development. The mafia: the homeland and its tone are usually darker, and although you are faced with some funny scenes, the game does not overcome too much humor.

Initially, do not expect too many actions from the game. Only you will fall into action, study everything and practically create your reputation. And if you know such stories well, you will probably be able to evaluate many plots or in which direction, in which direction the storyline will develop. But I can’t say that I will be bored with history. Despite a few rather clear cliches, the game was able to hold my attention, and yet I was curious if it had never been, how I think. Most of the time, despite predictability, I would call a good story, but I was not very impressed by its end. And the final fighting battle also found me mostly unnecessary. All this event could occur at the corresponding minute longer.

Weak

Since Enzo slowly but surely begins to prove, he will penetrate deeper into the secrets of the family. Later, you will not enjoy events only during shootings with various enemies, in battles with knives or even a small number of prompting. Sometimes you get the task of getting somewhere without observation and simply not to fulfill the task without successful collapse. Unfortunately, the enemies here are not the brightest, and you can very easily go around them many times along a clearly prepared line path. Most of the time of the missions you must shoot in any case, so the game offers a balance between two elements. Whether you want it or not. In addition, the basis of most missions is very similar. In many cases, they simply send you to solve you for the Don.

These are classic shootings, hiding behind the walls, boxes and the like. A joint action will offer you mostly an opportunity to bypass all enemies, lure them with abandoned bottles or coins, or you can kill them unnoticed by a stranger or your faithful knife. By the way, you can use the Ik Syring of Dearts, but gradually wears, and you must sharpen it using reusable use. Therefore, you need to think often, because you do not wear grinding in pockets in large quantities.

Gameplay is the weakest side of the game. This is not a breakthrough, and the movement of the figure is not quite smooth. Enzo often got stuck about textures (for example, a stuck piece of wood from a heap for which I was hidden). The control in places looks outdated, clumsy and bulky. This could reliably tear me out of concentration on all events, and often controlled could poison me well. In places, even in the case of interaction where you want to start talking with another character or open the door. Usually an icon for interaction appears and contains the interaction button. But the badge loved to play with me quite often and was used only to turn the character at right angles.

The same applies to control of a horse or knives. I really liked going here on a horse (for some reason I have a weakness for them in all games). Especially when you teach and go somewhere with other characters for ransom and talk and enjoy the surrounding landscape during driving. At these moments, I often returned to me with pleasant memories from my beloved Red Dead Redemption 2. However, a horse cannot miss even a lower obstacle here, and its movement is rather awkward again. For example, if you go along with other characters, horses are so strangely repelled from the road when they are too suitable for each other.

Car control, at least, is much better. They go smoothly, easily maneuver with them and simply have a much better physics than horses. There I just surprised me when I managed to cancel the car on the roof (yes, I’m going on horses better than cars). If I went with several friends again, although the car was upside down, the heap continued to say that everyone had buried their heads on a dirt road. However, by pressing one button, however, rewind the car back, and you can continue your trip, as if it does not mumble.

As long as gameplay is a big problem than a predictable story.

And the last mentioned battles with knives again have a similar problem. I understand the efforts of the creators for such an epic boss, because in these battles you are always with one enemy mainly on the closed “boss -art”, and the winner can only be one. Fights intertwine with several screensavers, where the actors fight without your participation, and then you throw yourself directly into action. In the finale, these battles are again quite clumsy, it seemed several times that I hit the enemy, but the game had the opposite opinion, and in general I had such a strange, unsatisfactory feeling. From my point of view, an untouched game process was a greater problem than a predictable story.

The beauty of Sicily

I think that the creators made the external world processing, which also often emphasizes the fun soundtrack. The world is quite detailed. For example, the buildings look very realistic, you can see irregularly protruding stones from the walls or their faded, cracked plaster. I was especially intrigued by dark scenes, whether underground, in the basement or just in a rare lit room. The game with the light of the lanterns present or the weakly shining sunlight through closed windows, it was possible to correctly give the plot films a dark and serious atmosphere. As for duplication, I always prefer the original. If you play a game with Sicilian dubbing, this will certainly be better to portray the atmosphere. However, Czech Dubbing is also successful. This was not at all distracted from him, the voices corresponded to the characters and managed to capture their emotions.

As soon as you leave the place of the mission, a warning appears.

All visited locations (whether outside in nature or in cities) seemed quite complex and diverse. When I found a complaint that the game does not give more space for research, despite the fact that you can find various objects of the collector in the game. These are various letters and messages to complete the history or medallions and beads that give you significant advantages. They will definitely look back at them. But the game is simply rather strict, and as soon as you leave the mission website, you will receive a notification that you need to return within a few seconds.

Otherwise, the mission fails, and you can start again from the last control point. For example, I wanted to go through a place (where I had a dozen enemies), look for objects and return a little, but I was just lucky. It also applies to weapons and other improvements. It is possible to get there only rarely, because otherwise the game leads you from one mission directly to another. So, at first glance, the game can act almost like an open world, and when you pass between the places, you do not find any load screens (which I appreciate), but otherwise you are primarily following linear history. But who does not like the long open world, of course, will appreciate this.

I played the game on the classic version of PlayStation 5, and I did not encounter some fatal mistakes that prevent the game passage. Just small or even funny mistakes when one of my friends stood in a car for a moment. I also crushed the game from a quality mode to performance. Visually, this was not a big difference, but it was quite a difference in fluency, and only occasionally I noticed small FPS drops.

Verdict

Mafia: the homeland does not insult fans of plot games, mafia or criminal films, or many fans of the original games of the series. Nevertheless, this is a relatively simpler experience that will not leave you as deep as some stronger names after completion. The best smooth gameplay will provide a better and more smooth course, ideally, along with a wide variety of missions and fights. But these weaknesses balance the game through a beautifully thought -out world and well -written characters, including the protagonist.
