Nintendo Switch 2 is already at the door, and although Japanese society has devoted itself to the specifications, and we learned quite a lot about the object, perhaps the most important part, the SOC itself. She only stated that it was a chip created by Nvidia tailor. But for several years we knew that the device was probably equipped with a T239 chip, and it was currently officially confirmed, Richard Lidbetter published detailed specifications from Digital Foundry.

CPU

As expected, part of the processor consists of 8 bark ARM A78C (2020) with a 64 -bit set of ARMV8 instructions. For games, however, only 6 cores will be used, the remaining two are reserved for the system. The processor also has a 64 -kilometer instructions L1 Cache, 64 -kilogram cache L1, Cache 256 KB L2 for each nucleus and the total cache L3 4 MB for all 8 nuclei. Then the frequency varies depending on the regime, paradoxically higher in the portable device, 1100 MHz, and in the reverse state -998 MHz. Interestingly, the maximum is much higher, 1700 MHz. Let’s see if Nintendo will use such a high tact someday in the future.

For comparison, in its predecessor four ARM Cortex A57 (2012) nuclei were used, one of which was booked for the system. But the clock was very similar, namely 1020 MHz for the dock and a portable device, so the processor in Switch 2 will win mainly from a much more new architecture.

Graphic processor

Let’s move on to the graphic processor where the AMPEE architecture is used, as expected (RTX 30, 2020 Series). The chip offers 1536 cuda nuclei and very different rods in accordance with the mode. There are only 561 MHz in the portable device, in the opposite state of 1 007 MHz, and the full maximum is 1400 MHz. As for RT performance, the GPU should offer about 10 g/s (Galai per second) in portable mode and twice, that is, 20 g/s.

I would like to remind you that the original switch had only 256 cuda Architecture Maxwell nuclei (GTX 900, 2014 series), and the rods were lower, namely 768 MHz for a seized mode and 460 MHz for a portable device, with a maximum of 921 MHz.

FRAME

Also, leaks were confirmed for memory, the device will offer two modules 6 GB of LPDR5X RAM, i.e. Together 12 GB on a 128 -bit bus. The frequency also varies depending on the regime, in portable mode, so the permeability is only 68 GB/s, in the opposite state it is 102 GB/s.

The new information lies in the fact that 3 GB of common memory reserves Nintendo for the system, and this is not quite. Thus, there are 9 GB for games that will probably not be much larger than Xbox Series S, where Microsoft OS was softer, although the device itself has 10 GB of RAM.

For comparison, the initial switch had only 4 GB of LPDR4 RAM, of which 800 MB was only for the system. The device used a 64 -bit tire, and the resulting permeability was 25.6 GB in the rear and 21.3 GB in portable mode. Thus, the new console increases permeability by more than three times in a portable device, and the dock even four times.

Storage and FDE

It is not surprising that in storage, the console will offer 256 GB of UFS, and the size will be expanded to 2 TB thanks to Microsd Express cards.

But this is not the only step that Nintendo took for a fastest load, because Switch 2 contains a specially manufactured chip named Decompression Engine (FDE). As the name implies, this is a unit that takes care of the decompression of the data, which the processor otherwise should have done. FDE decompression should be faster and less energy.

Display

The Nintendo display was reported quite widely, so I just remind you that this is a 7.9 -inch LCD -display with a resolution of 1080p and renewal of a rat 120 Hz, with the support of HDR10, VRR and sensory control.

A somewhat strange, variable renewal frequency, according to the digital foundry, will actually maintain, at least, at the moment, only on the internal display, and not in the dock. This may be due to the fact that Switch 2 does not offer a full connection of HDMI 2.1 and, therefore, has no HDMI VRR support. For example, he still must decide, supporting Freesync, Microsoft brought Xbox One, and then also SERIES X/S (Sony on PS5 is relied exclusively on HDMI VRR), but, at least when you release, players will probably have to do without VRR. Only a fixed update speed of 60 or 120 Hz will be available.

DLSS support

Of course, using the GPU architecture supports DLSS with technology, from NVIDIA (but does not generate images). Headbetter indicates that high -quality, balanced, performance, but also the local DLAA should be supported. Obviously, the dynamic resolution will not be a problem, since it is used in combination with the DLSS Cyberpunk 2077. This is also the only title in which we know that it uses technology.

Game

Finally, Digital Foundry was a game chat, a video study that will offer Switch 2. According to Leadbetter, this is an important and very demanding part of the device, to the extent that Nintendo gives developers a special tool for testing the game’s performance when the game chat is turned on. Thus, we will see the influence of real deployment.

Conclusion

And this is all that brought a digital foundation. If you want to know more about Nintendo Switch 2, in April we could try it at the exhibition center in London, where we not only wrote here on the Internet, but also discussed everything in the podcast. The equipment itself will enter the market on June 5.
