If you’ve been looking forward to PlayStation’s PS Plus refresh, you’ll be happy to hear that SIE CEO Jim Ryan has updated his PlayStation blog with some new information on when it will launch. The new tiered system will be rolled out globally, with Asian markets receiving service first. Therefore, the PS Plus refresh release date will be different depending on your location.
The Asian market, excluding Japan, is expected to receive the new PS Plus service from May 23, 2022. Then Japan will follow suit and get the new tier subscription from June 1, 2022. The PS Plus refresh will be available to United States on June 13. 2022. And Europe is the last country to receive the new PS Plus service from June 22, 2022.
It’s worth noting that those dates aren’t set in stone, but Jim Ryan seems confident that PlayStation gamers around the world will enjoy this new system in July.
PlayStation’s new PS Plus revision combines the existing PS Plus service with PS Now, offering three tiers of access, each costing a different amount and offering different benefits.
PlayStation Plus Essential is the closest thing to the current PS Plus. It will cost $9.99 / £6.99 per month and will give players access to two months of gameplay and various discounts exclusive to the PS Store and online multiplayer.

PlayStation Plus Extra offers more to gamers. Of course, you get all the benefits you get with PS Plus Essential, but you’ll also get access to around 400 PS4 and PS5 games – in a similar and somewhat similar way to the PS Plus collection that PS5 gamers have now access, what PS Now has to offer. However, it will cost you $14.99 / £10.99 per month. So a little more.
PlayStation Plus Premium is the most expensive tier of the updated PS Plus system. This gives you everything mentioned above and access to hundreds of PS3, PS2, PS1 and PSP games via cloud streaming and sometimes downloads. There will also be a number of limited-time game trials in this tier that EA Play members can currently enjoy on other platforms. However, it will cost you around $17.99 / £13.49 per month.
This new system is still a small way out, but it will be an interesting competitor to Xbox’s Game Pass. That said, you have to wonder if Sony will pull the same numbers on its platform, as there are no day one releases. However, if you’re looking for cheaper games, here we have the best free PS5 games to browse.
