According to NVIDIA, Switch 2 has a more powerful graphic processor compared to the previous console

He offers both DLS and rays tracing, but Nintendo is not very general.

Despite the fact that we learned a lot of information about the console as such a presentation of Nintendo Direct, the Japanese company did not want to boast of what was hidden inside the device, and talks only about the user chip from Nvidia. Although we knew for several years that it should be the SOC T239 with the architecture of the AMPERE graphic processor (RTX 30), but we officially did not see confirmation.

IGN editors, along with other selected journalists, can take part in the event in New York, where Nintendo focused on the aspects of equipment. Nevertheless, even there they did not want to engage in technical details that he recognized as part of the strategy.

“Nintendo does not reveal too many technical characteristics of hardware.” The general director of the Nintendo Tetsuja Sasaki technology unit said. “We want to focus on the values that we bring to customers.”

In any case, it was said that Switch 2 supports the DLSS expansion, as well as the trace of rays, accelerated hardware, but not one of the Nintendo technologies, only said that it has these opportunities. Neither the RT nor DLSS saw in any games presented, many of the names do not use anti-alters.

At least several additional information was added by NVIDIA itself, which in a short article in its blog stated that the GPU actually offers RT and Tensor Core. The article says that the second type of nuclei should not be used only on DLSS, that Nintendo used them, for example, to track faces or removal the background.

Perhaps the most interesting information is that the new graphic chip should be more powerful than the Tegra X1, which fed on the basis of the original switch. The question, of course, is whether this is just a paper value, such as the teraflopes (in this case, it will mean an increase from 0.5 to 5) or real performance in games, where something like this seems less likely.

Despite the fact that Switch equipment was outdated during the release, the Switch 2 chip will be even more older during its release. The 2020 AMPE GPU architecture should be complemented by the CPU Cortex A78, also from the same year. Of course, this does not change the fact that this will be a great increase in performance compared to the initial switch.

Nintendo Switch 2 is sent to the market on June 5 this year.
