AMD quietly released a new entry-level graphics card

Without any prior announcement, AMD released the “new” RX 6000 graphics card on April 20th. The quotes are no coincidence, as the Radeon RX 6400 graphics were released in January, but only for the OEM market, and are now available separately. It’s AMD’s cheapest model, officially priced at $159, $40 less than the failed Radeon RX 6500 XT. It offers 12 compute units, 16MB Infinity Cache, and a base clock speed of 1923MHz boostable to 2321MHz. The memory is not surprising, it is 4 GB GDDR6 with a 64-bit bus. But the card mostly boasts a very low TDP of 53W.

The first reviews confirmed what AMD itself claims. The RX 6400 has slightly better performance than the GTX 1650. It’s just an entry-level GPU, it’s definitely not for demanding games.

Graphics prices continue to fall

The 3DCenter website published another analysis of the video card market in Germany and Austria. The current trend is clearly visible on the updated chart, prices have been gradually decreasing since the end of last year and are now very close to MSRP. AMD cards are overpriced by “only” 12%, Nvidia by 19%.

Given that it’s been more than a year and a half since the release of the current generation and the new graphics are rapidly approaching, this is certainly not a big victory, but it’s still great that the market is gradually stabilizing. In Czech stores, prices are still higher than abroad, but the decline in domestic prices traditionally comes to the Czech Republic with a delay.
