More than ten years ago, the Sniper Elite series decided to change the direction. With the third episode, more open maps, greater freedom of movement and an improved security system appeared. Thus, the game received a more similar character, for example, the Hitman series, and you can fulfill the mission in accordance with your own style. The following parts did not bring a revolution, but each of them improved the little things and entered new places. I enjoyed the sniper elite 5 since 2022. When we went to sunny France in cooperation, in the review the game took mostly positive answers from us. Therefore, we were looking for another episode. But instead of a complete episode, we rather saw some DLC. So, if you saw a three -year review of the fifth episode, I will not tell you not very new … but I will try. Where there was enthusiasm three years ago, only the taste of disappointment and dejavu remained in a recently released sniper elite: resistance.
As in the previous episode, here we return to the Nazi occupied France during the Second World War. Although this country offers an excellent background for snipers, there is one serious problem – we have already seen it. And it was not so long ago. Medieval cities, surrounded by walls, mountain passages with strictly protected bunkers, lonely castles in the middle of nowhere – we all passed in the previous game.
Sniper Elite: Resistance comes to the base with nine missions, the first of which is only a short textbook, and the latter cannot even count for the complete. In fact, we get seven “unique” cards, where we have the task of destroying Germany’s plans. Each location is processed accurately and offers several possible procedures. You can blow up enemies at the station, penetrate the streets of the city and use the underground system of corridors or just shoot everyone. There are many more ways to achieve the goal. Especially if you prefer a secrecy procedure. But cards, although diverse and visually good, act as a copy of the previous episode. Although, of course, they are not identical places, their design, appearance and concept are too similar. In short, you can see that the developers followed absolutely identical templates as the fifth episode.
Unfortunately, these are not only cards. The resistance as a whole acts as DLC, and not a complete continuation. The gameplay remained unchanged. News? Absolutely not. The mechanics for the elimination of German soldiers are exactly the same. Despite the fact that the gameplay itself is interesting even after three years, the laziness of the developers beat the eyes that brought a new hero only in three years, which is almost incredibly sad. And yes, you hear correctly – Karl Farberne plays other responsibilities, and this time Harry Hoker plays the main role. Players can know this as the side nature of previous episodes, and in resistance he has his premiere as the main character. And personally, I hope this is the last time. Harry was absolutely not sympathized with the main character to me. It is not that it depends so much, because history has always been on this series on the border of disasters and diameter. For many years, the template was repeated here – the Germans found a new superzabra, which could contribute to their victory in the Second World War. But, according to the coincidence, it is you, the only one, you can prevent this plan and destroy a powerful super -zabra.
But, unlike the previous episode, the story here shifts even more to the background. Although the part is called ResistanceDo not take into account French resistance. One video will show you that there is any resistance, but that’s all. And this is also one of the three screensavers. So this was limited, which is probably good, because their design is quite unhappy, as in the fifth episode. Animations of the characters are terrible, and duplication at best is average.
But all this Sniper elite This always forgives to some extent. In the end, the story has always been a kind of interweaving, which gave the mission the goal – and actually works the same way.
I can thank the arsenal of weapons. It is as good as three years ago. Modification of weapons is fun and gives you the opportunity to configure them to match your game style. The choice is huge, and I enjoyed additional modifications – all the more because you do not get to them, but you get them as a reward for the mission and the search for Ponku, which gradually unlock new equipment. However, do not look for authenticity here in most cases. Even if Sniper elite In the long run, he tried to make actions more real, this is still a game. And for me personally, this is a good balance between an arcade shooter and a sniper simulator.
Another thing that I can thank is an opportunity to adapt complexity. Personally, I would point out an “authentic” mode that will take all auxiliary crutches. Whether it is a user interface, an indicator of whether someone sees you or the opportunity to see the influence of a missile on aiming. But no matter what difficulties you choose, one remains the same – the enemies are still quite boring. Yes, the enemies of AI improve with higher complexity, but this does not change the fact that even the highest sometimes have rather strange behavior. For example, their delay between views of you, and at the moment when they begin to react, is good in terms of difficulty, but often creates quite comic situations.
Unfortunately, along with poor artificial intelligence, it is clear that the sniper elite is already behind. Resistance Sometimes it looks very beautiful, but sometimes it looks rather outdated. The characters have a problem with the coating and constant passage from the cover to the squat, incredibly annoying. During running, the hero becomes almost uncontrolled. By killing someone nearby, it happens that the enemy is teleported to you simply to make the animation properly or, conversely, hit the knife into the air. As for graphic design, at first glance it looks fully … normal. And even at present it is not offended, but this is not even so. At the closest look, you can see that in places the details can be better. Objects at a distance look completely ugly and, for example, tall grass or racks look artificial. At the same time, developers can play with flowers and the environment, but the final impression in the final is quite disappointed when we are talking about 2025. Although this does not sound strictly bad, so mainly after the end of the melody it will not grow.
But the biggest problem is how the developers make up invisible pillows and unobtrusively tell you how to play. Although the mission looks open, and it seems that you can do what you want, quickly find out how inconsistently this impression is. Sometimes the characters have no problems jumping on the wall, which is two times higher than they, but soon they cannot miss the fence that reaches their waist. This aspect is repeated too often around the world, and you will quickly find that a sense of open movement is just an illusion that the developers are trying to serve. In addition to disappointment, this also causes some distrust and a sense of closure.
