The Japanese series of RPG Monster Hunter militants is not so old, the first episode was created in 2004 for the PlayStation 2. Dozens of other games under this brand marked success mainly in their homeland, but the epic name of the world history of the Monster Hunter of Capcom (creators of the RESIDENT EVIL series, among the RESIDENT EVIL series other things). Today, Hunter Monster has sold more than 100 million items, and therefore the last part is looking for large expectations.

When everything meets

Monster Hunter Wilds can easily look like a “normal” video game for several hours. In many ways, the story of the last episode with the world of subtitles is reminiscent, although the environment, characters and monsters are undoubtedly detailed and complex. However, from time to time, all the correct circumstances will meet: you will arrive in a beautiful part of the landscape, start the type of wild weather, a duel with an extremely huge and terrible monster, drinking an unexpected attack of the second giant, while all this shakes magnificent music. At such moments, the game suddenly turns into the fact that you have never experienced anywhere.

This is largely due to improved graphics, especially dynamic lighting and special effects, which are noticeably inspired by the stylization of famous Hollywood high captures, led by director Garet Edwards. Already in previous games, we experienced excellent battles with giant monsters, but they really never looked so good and “film”. It is also due to the amazing design of some new monsters and their animation, for example, when a giant spider jumps onto the head of a giant lizard and during the subsequent struggle with all trees around. Or another monster in a massive river riverbed causes waves of meters from all sides. It is difficult to describe it in words.

This maximum effect cannot be achieved for each battle, but if this happens, you will definitely recognize it. Unfortunately, the absurdly strict embargo conditions forbid me to show you a number of monsters or excerpts in the pictures of the screen (I should not write about some game mechanics and other key features of the game that the authors want to save as a surprise). Therefore, if you played one of the public beta tests of the game and you think that you have a good idea of ​​what the game looks like and what awaits you, I can assure you that this is not so. When Wilds pulls out real anes from the sleeve, then you will see something. Thanks to the best work with special effects, the impression of the size of the monsters and the last match of the whole game can easily work for the title of best battle with the boss, and not only in this series.

Do not underestimate this loop

Monster Hunter Games are based on a relatively simple, constantly repeating loop: choose any weapon, catch your first monster, part of his body makes the best weapon and armor, throw a stronger monster at a stronger monst … A simple sequence in principle, which works is absolutely surprising and retains yours for tens of hours, among other things, thanks to the rapid pace and pleasant sensations of how your clothes and weapons turn In features, strength and appearance, depending on when you humiliated.

Initially, this can take a little, partly due to the larger frequency of films and plot expositions, due to the fact that you should see and start a little. But as soon as you get into this, and the cycle will begin the full full rate, you will have a big problem to break away from the game. History helps this to influence a little better than last time, among other things, because the characters are much better processed, and you will take care of them. Although the central mystery falls into the category of genre cliches, thanks to an extremely expedition and atmosphere, you will still be frozen on your back until you go down to the most hidden depths of this world. The plot is the discovery of a new country, which, obviously, threatens the abnormal crisis of the ecosystem.

As fans of the series know well, after the “finish” of history and the latter subtitles, it was far from ending, on the contrary, in many respects, only here the real fun begins when there are so many key mechanics, the entire previous campaign acts as a textbook and overture than the main dish. If you want to make your equipment really perfect, including the nuances and aesthetics, you can easily leave in the game fifty to a hundred hours, during which you will have a great time. The passage of the plot campaign will cost about twenty years, but you should not stop there and at least try the next stage of the game.

You are never lonely

If you insist that you always want to hunt yourself, only accompanied by your faithful lizard and assistant cat, you can install the game. In addition, you also have the opportunity to allow up to three other hunters who can control either artificial intelligence or other online players. You can also set a value below if you want to hunt with a friend or partner in two players. Hunters control artificial intelligence are not very strong, but they can attract the attention of the monster, so you have peace to cure or break the tank.

Each player can have different preferences, but I would like to see that in this game there is little fun, as when other players join the hunt. In this particular game, this is seasoned with a possible replacement during the hunt, when you can start with artificial intelligence hunters, which will then be exchanged gradually connecting online players. This is a great smooth and natural process, which is significantly supplemented by a system of adjustable emotions and stickers, whose texts you can manually edit.

During the review, I met my favorites from playing media from all over the world, from Fightincowboy to Giant Bomb or IGN editors, and it was always fun, full of funny emotions when we met the hunt again. In the game, of course, you can create clans and add friends to the list so that you can easily meet again. Starting a new hunt, you can make a wedding in advance in advance, so you are not only depending on any coincidence, regardless of what will appear and who will then appear during the hunt. There is also a voice.

A little big changes

The hardcore fans of the series will undoubtedly give passionate debates about many changes in mechanics, weapons or monsters, but basically I would not be afraid to say that the game is very similar to previous works, especially with the world of subtitles. New elements are rather a category of sub -impression, but in the end they have a clear positive effect. For example, this includes the new “focus” attacks and injuries, which makes the whole hunt much more dynamic, because you should concentrate more on specific parts of the monster. This brings a new layer of tactics and events that makes battles much more fun and more diverse: as an archer, I had almost constantly “weak” weaknesses that I had to try to aim, which later rewarded with significantly higher efficiency. Among other changes – the ability to take a backup weapon, whether it is the same type with another element or even completely different. Although he carries your believer or and therefore you need to jump on him to change your weapon, but in any case it means that you can go hunting with two weapons. Other changes include the ability to wear any armor, regardless of the gender of your character, a faster separation of cut off parts of the monsters between players, the ability to put the end of the mission manually than anxiety at the end or even a clearer 3D card. This is even more, because the whole game world is the only, huge, related map with many biomes and dynamic weather changes. The music is traditionally impressive, but it can also find very beautiful and sensitive positions that help to better tone history and the general atmosphere. The sound system is the upper one, with the lights of the largest monsters reliably strengthens your veins.

Expedition and weakness

As I described at the beginning of the review, the game with the correct combination of the environment and weather can look absolutely unbelievable, the differences between the “ordinary passage” and one of the “epic” are huge, and I dare to say that the best moments move the bar not only for the series, but And even for the whole environment. Of course, this is bought out by HW Sdeadulty, for example, when PC players during the first beta test completely complained about low fluidity, which, fortunately, in the next tests were better optimized. I played PS5 for the console. Although there are three graphic modes, I found only a diet. Such a “balanced” mode for 40 frames was not enough for me, the actions are too wild. But the good news is that the game still looks great in performance mode and retains 60 frames quite well, which applies to both general and consoles (for consoles thanks to PSSR reaches a slightly higher image quality), all high -class Modes for resolution 4K.

The game offers absolutely unprecedented moments, and its amazing loop easily absorbs you, but you can find minor problems. Although I recorded hundreds of hours in various episodes of the series, it still seems to me that control is too surpassing or somewhat illogical. It happened to me that I intuitively used another combination of buttons than what was really. Disappointment from these points sometimes emphasizes some slowness of animation. From other RPG actions (Path of Exile 2 or Elden Ring), I am used to much faster and more accurate answers, here you often compress another instruction, but you must wait until your character completes the previous animation. This may look better and more natural, but it is not perfect for such an intensive action. Do not make mistakes for the first ten hours: later the bosses are so fast and tons that you can’t even watch many times. The main preparation for hunting in terms of configured equipment and food, as well as maximum attention and good reflexes.

Verdict

From time to time, when the correct environment, weather and a combination of monsters are found, this game will show you so impressive that you have never seen anything like this before. The nucleus of the gameplay is again – the same addictive loop that sooner or later hopelessly suffers failure. Significantly improved characters and a more interesting story is only a glaze on the cake. You should not miss this game.
