Shooting Warhammer 40,000: Space Marines 2 managed to return this fascinating world to the players. More than six million people took part in the fighting. It’s no surprise that Games Workshop wants to repeat this success in the future. But this won’t be the only RPG that got canceled due to funding issues.

The unannounced game was being developed by a relatively unknown studio. Penny’s Thought. The team was founded in 2020 by Tim Earns, who previously worked on franchises such as Star Wars and Final Fantasy. The studio is described on its official website as a developer of role-playing games, but Warhammer will not be developed due to a change in the strategic direction of the unnamed publisher. The company was hit by layoffs in 2023 and 2024. The last one was especially painful.

In any case, the Warhammer world should have been expanded by third-person cooperative PvE RPG created on Unreal Engine 5. We had unique heroes with different playstyles. In other words, one hero excels at melee combat, while the other excels at ranged combat.

The project has been in development since at least 2022 and was supposed to appear on several platforms. According to the LinkedIn post, the cancellation was sudden. Two months ago, creative director Daniel Erickson wrote about how they were getting great reviews. Development should have gone well.

What can we expect instead? We officially know about the sequel Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus And ambitious MMORPGwhich is being developed by Jackalyptic Games in collaboration with NetEase. Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised if Saber Interactive created a new Space Marine.
