The authors of the Demon’s Souls remake were supposed to work on a game from the world of God of War.
Following the failure of last year’s online shooter Concord, which shut down servers just moments after its release and what we now know was its final end, Sony is preparing for more cuts. This time we are talking about two unannounced projects from studios that have not released games for several years. This information was provided exclusively by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, but this is an official report confirmed directly by a Sony spokesperson.
So what are these games? The first canceled game is a live service from Bend Studio, the creators of the Siphon Filter series and the 2019 action-adventure Days Gone. We don’t know any details about the upcoming game, but it will never see the light of day. day again.
The second project is also a live service, but from the Bluepoint studio, which is famous primarily for its remakes, be it the remastered collection of Uncharted, the remake of Shadow of the Colossus or, most recently, the remake of Demon’s Souls from 2020. Without directly refusing remakes, Bluepoint has already has been announcing for a long time that the next project will be a new game.
According to Schreier, Bluepoint assisted with the development of God of War Ragnarök from 2020 to 2022, and then completely moved on to developing new projects. It was supposed to be a game from the world of God of War, a brand that will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year.
It is unclear whether the project cancellations will lead to further layoffs. According to an internal report obtained by Schreier, Sony “will work closely with Bend and Bluepoint to make decisions on other projects and plans to do everything to minimize the impact on the company.”
Among the announced live service games, Sony continues to develop Farigame$ from Haven Studios, founded by Jade Raymond. An online game from the world of Horizon has also been talked about for a long time, but this game has not yet been officially presented, although it may appear this year.
