Rockstar Games has once again outraged the community. A well-known studio has canceled an elaborate fan modification Liberty City Conservation Projectwhich at the end of last year Grand Craft Auto V ported through Liberty City from GTA IV. The mod’s creators announced their decision on Discord, saying they were shutting down the project due to the unexpected attention it received and after consulting with Rockstar Games.
“Thank you for all the support the project has received and we look forward to once again developing our passion for Grand Theft Auto mods.” The authors stated this without providing additional details. Already last year, they were considering whether to release the mod publicly, fearing interference from Take-Two Interactive’s lawyers.
Although the authors have not confirmed this, it seems that Rockstar has intervened again and asked for the mod to be removed. What are they planning at Rockstar? GTA IV remaster? This is not the first time something like this has been suggested.
The Liberty City preservation project has received significant attention. A team of enthusiasts managed to transfer the original map from GTA 4 in unprecedented quality. There were familiar locations, building interiors, pedestrians on the street, vehicles or sound effects from the original game. Also included was a package HD textures improving the visual quality of old Liberty City. Fans wanted to continue developing the mod and gradually improve it.
