Ubisoft is once again delaying the release of its flagship game. The French company announced today that Assassin’s Creed Shadows it will not be released on February 14th as planned, but a month later. This is already the second shift, because initially the game was supposed to debut in November/November 2024.
A new date has been set for 03.20.2025 in versions for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. This is necessary to configure the game and process player feedback. We can only hope that the long-awaited adventure in feudal Japan does not end in a lot of problems.
At the same time, Ubisoft confirmed that takes steps to restructure the companyand hired a consultant to evaluate “various strategic and capital options.” This suggests that a sale of the previously speculated company may be on the way. In December, Reuters reported negotiations between Ubisoft and Chinese giant Tencentwho is already a major shareholder of the company. Tencent is reportedly considering taking over the French publishing house and taking it private.
Ubisoft also announced that plans to significantly reduce investments and focus only on key projects. Actions leading to savings include the previously canceled development of the XDefiant online event and the closure of three studios in regions with high operating costs. The company’s main priority now is to complete Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which is reflected in the extension of the development cycle by another five weeks..
“This decision gives our developers more time to implement the player feedback we’ve collected over the past three months.” This is stated in a statement from Ubisoft. Additionally, select players will have the opportunity to try out the game in a limited test next week.
