At the fair CES 2025 A new product has been presented that will interest Xbox fans who prefer the ergonomics of PlayStation controllers. Company Hyperkinesis the driver announced Competitorwhich is designed as an alternative for gamers who prefer the design and features known from DualSense, but at the same time fully compatible with Xbox Series X/S and PC.
However, there is one big difference. There’s nothing in the press release about Competitor having adaptive triggers and haptic vibration, which are the main selling points of the DualSense controller.
A new controller from Hyperkin was announced back in 2019. It has since undergone a major redesign. Now looks even more like DualSense thanks to a dedicated D-pad, microphone mute button and trigger with a PlayStation-inspired design. Additionally, it will offer elegant PS5-inspired color combinations.
One of the main advantages of this controller is Joysticks with Hall effectwhich eliminate a problem known as “stick drift,” which is unwanted movement of analog sticks. This is a significant improvement over the standard Xbox and PS5 controllers. The driver also includes two programmable buttons on the back, which players can customize to suit their needs.
The competitor will only be connected to a wired network, which guarantees lower latency and a stable connection. It is compatible not only with Xbox Series X/S consoles, but also with PCs. It’s a practical choice for PC gamers – the controller works like an Xbox, but the ergonomics are reminiscent of a PlayStation. This means you don’t have to worry about missing Xbox icons in your Steam games’ UI.
Hyperkin hasn’t announced the exact price yet, but it is expected to be in the $60 to $100 range. The driver should hit the market later this year.
