The legend of Dracula comes to life in the hands of one of the most demonic directors of our time. The creator of The Witch and The Northman, Robert Eggers, has created the timeless tale of the power of obsession and the limits of ultimate evil: Nosferatu.
The story of Nosferatu, a legendary horror film from the early era of cinema, is based on Dracula writer Bram Stoker, when he changed only a few details of the original. More than a hundred years after its creation, the outstanding director Robert Eggers made a new film adaptation.
Ellen Hutter (Lily-Rose Depp) would be a happy newlywed if she weren’t haunted by terrifying nightmares. Plus, her husband Thomas (Nicholas Hoult) must travel to wild Eastern Europe on business to cut a deal for the mysterious Count Orlok (Bill Skarsgård). Who would have thought that there was a direct connection between travel and dreams, that the Hatters became pawns in a noble game to spread the reign of absolute evil throughout the continent? Despite the incredible hardships Thomas goes through to meet Orlok, he finally manages to return home. But his return does not mean victory. Ellen slowly succumbs to madness as darkness and death spread everywhere. The only one on the couple’s side is the eccentric Professor Eberhart von Franz (Willem Dafoe), who knows what a powerful enemy they are up against. Will this be enough to stop Nosferatu?
Robert Eggers’ films are united by a depressing atmosphere that can be conveyed from the screen to the viewer. That’s why Nosferatu was the perfect story for him. This historical horror film was mainly filmed at the Barrandov studios, and travel-loving viewers will also recognize some of the Czech castles and castles. “With every new film I try to push my limits,” says Eggers, promising viewers a chilling experience. If they still have them in them.
