The viewership broke records.
Game Awards organizer Geoff Keighley said there was a record number of views this year. 154 million subscriberswhich was clearly enough to surpass all previous years. By comparison, last year The Game Awards was watched by 118 million viewers.
Thus, the event was able to strengthen its position biggest gaming event of the year. The overall interest in the broadcast is perhaps even better characterized by comparison with other important broadcasts, such as the Oscars or the Grammy and MTV Video Music Awards.
Even the sum of the viewership of all three of these events did not reach the viewership of this year’s The Game Awards. Additionally, it can be seen from the graph below that while interest in these events is trending downwards, so The number of Game Awards continues to grow steadily..
The result is figures comparable to the biggest sporting events of the year, led by American Super Bowlwhich was watched by 118 million viewers on television this year, which is still 36 million less than this year at The Game Awards.
However, Geoff Keighley’s event still cannot be compared to historically the most-watched sports broadcasts, which we can include e.g. this year’s Champions League final (450 million subscribers) or World Cup final between Argentina and France from 2022 (1.5 billion viewers).
