Polish studio 11 bit, known for its successful series “Frostpunk”announced cancellation project 8 and the associated dismissal of some employees. The team of 37 developers who worked on the game will face significant changes – some employees will be transferred to other games, while others will have to say goodbye to their positions.
Company President Przemyslaw Marshal explains the reasons for stopping development in an official statement. According to him, during the COVID-19 pandemic it was not possible to stabilize the development team, which negatively affected the quality of the game and the entire development process. Despite this, progress continued, with marked improvements in quality in some areas while problems arose in others. The turning point came after a thorough evaluation of the project’s final milestone.
“When assessing a project, the board always takes into account the progress of its development, including internal assessments and independent studies,” The marshal explained. Unfortunately, unsolved problems and tasks have arisen; their solution would require expanding development and a corresponding increase in the budget. This, coupled with revised sales forecasts that largely reflected changing market conditions, raised serious doubts about the overall viability of the project.
The project stood until cancellation 48.4 million zlotys (about 1.1 billion CZK). Project 8 had to be exciting and ambitious. It was created on Unreal Engine 5, and in the 2021 teaser we could see a destroyed temple covered in rubble.
