Instead of a modern setting, this time we’re looking at the 1970s.
Last fall, the French company Microids released a game adaptation of Agatha Christie’s famous detective novel Murder on the Orient Express. They kept the basics, but modified the plot here and there and expanded it quite significantly, while the game takes place in the present. It’s a rather wild combination, incorporating an American detective into the plot as a second playable character, but it worked well and the game received 8 points out of 10 in our review.
The game seems to have done well in terms of sales as Microids has announced another game based on Christie’s work, this time it will be Death on the Nile. Like “Orient Express”, the developers were not afraid to experiment and changed the setting compared to the book, although not as radically as last time; specifically, we will look at the seventies of the last century.
In addition to Poirot, a second playable character will again appear, this time it will be detective Jane Royce, who is looking for a killer and will gradually look closely at Mallorca, London, New York and Egypt. The stories of the two main characters will be interconnected and will end with a grand finale. The developers once again promise that the game will not end where the book ended, and the story will continue.
Regarding the gameplay, we can again count on a mental map in which we will draw conclusions, but there will also be the collection of evidence and the interrogation of witnesses, during which we will have to uncover their lies.
In addition, the head of the Microids Lyon studio, David Chaumard, said in a statement on the official website that the developers took player feedback seriously. The puzzles should be more complex, and at the same time we will have more freedom of action in the investigation.
Agatha Christie – Death on the Nile will be released in 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. Judging by the header on Steam, it seems that the game will also have a Czech language, but this has not yet been officially confirmed.
