The developers have added the ability to disable PSSR and promise a cleaner image.
Shortly before Christmas, developers from Remedy made a gift for Alan Wake 2 players, that is, especially for those who own the new PlayStation 5 Pro console. This is an improved version of last year’s Survival Horror, which has now received relatively fundamental modifications and news.
The biggest one is the addition of a completely new mode, the existing “Quality and Performance” will be complemented by “Balanced”. You’ll need 120Hz support for this, and it’s aimed at 40fps. The mode then takes the detail settings from the Quality mode, meaning ray tracing reflections are also present, but you’ll have to put up with the lower input resolution, which is on par with the Performance mode.
However, the performance mode itself has also undergone some changes. In our analysis, we noted the fact that in Performance mode on PS5 Pro, paradoxically, FPS performs slightly worse than on PS5. Now the developers have decided to fix this by changing the settings to provide a more stable frame rate.
Ray tracing settings were then tweaked in Quality and Balanced modes, with Remedy promising cleaner images.
The last change is very interesting. Like several other games, Alan Wake 2 now offers the option to disable PSSR scaling. This setup will use FSR technology, just like the base game. PSSR, although it fixed some problems, also introduced its own, and no scaling in this game can be called clearly the best.
