PlayStation 2 is officially the best-selling console in the world. Sony has updated the numbers to celebrate PlayStation’s 30th anniversary and beyond. PlayStation History Page stated that it fell into the hands of players 160 million PS2 units.
We learned the last official figure in 2011. At the time, Sony boasted that it had surpassed 150 million units. Former PlayStation chief Jim Ryan also spoke about the success of the PS2 earlier this year when he said goodbye to the company.
The PlayStation 2 was released in March/March 2000 and was in production until early 2013. Despite this, the console continues to be very popular, with another 10 million units sold over the past 10-plus years.
The question is how long will the PS2 remain the world’s best-selling console before the Switch catches up with that icon. 146 million units were sold.
