The PSP and PS Vita consoles will likely see a successor.
According to the well-known Bloomberg agency, Sony is preparing a new portable computer that will become the successor to the PlayStation Portable and PlayStation Vita consoles. Unlike last year’s PlayStation Portal device, it should be approx. standalone handheld console with its own computing power.
However, the development of a new device is currently in its early stagesso the result will have to wait several years. According to Bloomberg, this is the company’s response to the success of the Nintendo Switch and the plans of competitor Microsoft, whose representatives, led by Xbox head Phil Spencer, are openly talking about preparing their own handheld. Decent sales of the PlayStation Portal streaming device may also have played a role.
Bloomberg editors also mention in the article that Sony originally wanted make a full-fledged handheld from the PlayStation Portal. But in the end, for unknown reasons, these plans were changed. The result is a “simple” streaming device that should be followed in a few years by a standalone portable computer.
