The Finnish studio presented investors with a plan for the next 6 years.
Finnish company Remedy held a big investor presentation today, focusing on plans for the next 6 years. In addition to finances, there were also the games themselves, where we learned interesting information.
General plans
Firstly, Remedy has confirmed that it wants to focus on its two big brands, i.e. Control and Alan Wake. There are plans to not only create AAA sequels, but also spin-offs (like FBC: Firebreak) or adaptations for media other than video games.
This should be helped by the recently announced collaboration with Annapurna, which acquired the rights to film adaptations and video game series from Remedy.
Another important point self-publishing. Remedy has so far sought partners for its games, but in the future it wants to publish games itself, starting with the co-op event FBC: Firebreak, which will release next year. There will be a lot more marketing or communications work, but the benefit of course will be a larger share of sales.
On the development side, Remedy has a dedicated team dedicated to maintaining and improving Northlight, as well as 4 core game development teams, which they don’t plan to expand much in the near future.
Alan Wake 2 is still an active project, although it’s just an update, and FBC: Firebreak, Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake and Control 2 are also in development. The first two games mentioned are in full development, the second Control is in development. production readiness.
Northlight
In terms of technology, the developers have highlighted their own Northlight engine, which they use in all their current development projects. In the presentation, they stated that a number of successful studios still use their own technologies, although most are moving to Unreal Engine.
Alan Wake 2
In its presentations, the Finnish studio focused on cost recovery. It has still not been possible to do this with Alan Wake 2, although we recently learned that it has Sold 1.8 million copies. That’s 500,000 more than the last known figure from February this year, and similar to that of the number one remaster released three years ago, which had 1.7 million.
In any case, the company promises strong sales in the fourth quarter, not only due to the pre-Christmas season, but also the release of The Lake House expansion or the PS5 Pro update.
The company then responded again to the controversy surrounding the fact that Alan Wake 2 is an Epic Games Store exclusive. Remedy still stands by its decision to work with Epic. It was thanks to him that he was supposed to receive a larger budget and maintain creative freedom.
At the same time, Remedy can boast that of those 1.8 million people the game almost 40% of players completedwhereas traditionally the values should be in the range of 20 to 30 percent.
Control
The first Control, released in 2019, has already sold out. 4.5 million copies. In total, more than 19 million players were expected to play the game, so the rest tried it through subscriptions like Game Pass or PS Plus.
The game is currently available on PC and consoles, but Remedy recently announced that a pro version is also in development. Poppywhere does he arrive February 12 next year. As elsewhere, it will support ray tracing and MetalFX scaling for Mac.
Other players can expect something too, as Remedy prepares a small free update that will be released in early 2025.. However, we do not yet know its contents.
Control 2
While Max Payne was only mentioned briefly during Remedy’s presentation, as the rights are owned by Rockstar, who will also be publishing the game, we did learn some interesting information about Control 2 as Remedy’s next big game.
Although the first part was a third-person action-adventure, the Finnish studio calls the second part as action role-playing game. But we don’t know the details yet, so it’s unclear what exactly this will mean for the game’s scope and mechanics.
