In an interview with Variety, we learned some interesting facts. Hideaki Nishino is determined to continue the ten-year cycle of generations. When asked whether Sony would wait even if Microsoft released the next generation of Xbox early, Nishino did not answer the question. Instead, he continued talking about how the PS5 Pro is not a next-gen console.
“It’s the consumer’s choice. If they want better visual quality, they will get it. So we wanted to offer consumers choice within a generation, so that’s what we’re doing.” – Nishino stated.
Work on the PS5 Pro began even before the launch of the PS5. A more powerful console for different generations has always been in the plans of the Japanese company. This was facilitated by the success of the PS4 Pro. This console was purchased by 20% of PS4 owners.
“It’s interesting that it attracted the attention of not only the most loyal users, but also new consumers who came to PlayStation with PS4 Pro,” Nishino explained to Variety.
Microsoft has already confirmed work on the next generation Xbox. There are rumors that he will want to bring it to the players sooner. Perhaps as early as 2026.
